Lord of life and light and good
in You, no darkness found
Creator, Founder, Architect
are You, my solid ground
i’ve tried the others, seen their faces
one by one, the same
they promise love and hope and life
each time a broken claim
for only death is found apart
from Your most precious love
nothing is like the grace You pour
on us from up above
no measure that we use below
can hold all that You’re worth
by no walls, nor boxes fenced
no fit container on this earth
and yet to us You sent your Son
You placed Him in a womb
Immanuel, the Morning Star
locked tight up in a tomb
how must that tomb have felt to Him
who knew no boundaries drawn
which one was tighter, womb or tomb
there waiting for the dawn
what love, what love, what love is this
who to our darkness runs
who holds our hands and soothes
embraces us as daughters, sons
i cannot find a word that fits
all i know You to be
so i’ll cast these on the waters
that these few words may fly to Thee
Beautiful, I loved this poem, but I have loved them all. They always seem to say what I needed to hear at that perfect time. God's timing--your words!
The 1st two words of the 5th stanza remind me of the pivot words ‘but God’ that we find in scripture. Hallelujah for those words.
