You counted my sins
one by one in Your ledger
and then said i’ll take that one, too
there is no surprise
no betrayal in my soul
that will pop, unexpected for You
although for me here
for me now they arise
and surprise and depress me each day
from Your view outside time
outside all that i know
they’ve been packaged and scattered away
as far as the east
and as far as the west
You have sent the refuse of my deeds
to deepest of space
to the length of the worlds
there is no calling back my disease
before You and Your holy
before You on Your throne
i can stand, rather kneel without shame
because Jesus the good
the impeccable friend
has covered me whole with His name
and on that great day
when i finally do rise
when at last i do come to my home
i will join with the crowds
the innumerable saints
ones You chose who will never more roam
but until then i’ll sing
i’ll write songs and pen hymns
and i’ll raise high the Name all above
for You wiped out my sin
and You covered my shame
You restored every cell with Your love
there’s no end to Your good
no last dose of Your patience
Your thoughts so much higher than ours
yet You lean with affection
incline toward us Your ear
gracious, lend to us daily Your powers
